About Me

Hello, this is Yao Lyu (Chinese: 吕尧, Pinyin: Lǚ Yáo). I am a PhD student in Human-Computer Interaction (HCI) at Penn State IST, advised by Dr. John M. Carroll

My research is primarily about technology-mediated social interactions. I've led HCI projects on human interactions with large-scale information systems, such as social media platforms, crisis response programs, and biometric surveillance systems. I interpret such interactions through lenses like Accessibility, Infrastructure, Crisis Informatics, Culture Influence, and Social Justice. My work has been published in CHI, CSCW, iConference, and ASIS&T (please check my publications or projects for more details).

Currently, I'm working on a long-term ethnography study on blind users' experience with short-video platforms. Please feel free to contact me for more information via email (yaolyu [at] psu.edu / lyuisyao [at] outlook.com), Linkedin, Twitter, or Facebook.
